WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease
(Program/Service; Web resource)
WomenHeart is a national non-profit patient advocacy organization founded by women with heart disease and dedicated to reducing death and disability among American women living with heart disease.
The website contains news items, a bulletin board, membership information and personal stories. There are fact sheets on women and heart disease, research updates, exercise tips, nutrition information and tips on how to quit smoking. A section on mental health includes information on aging and alcohol abuse and reducing anger and stress. You’ll also find directories of heart centres for women, US hospitals for heart patients and online pharmacies. If you want to participate in a research study, there is a link to the heart section of the US National Institute of Health’s ClinicalTrials.gov searchable database.
Issues of the organization’s monthly newsletter, Heart to Heart, are posted. Books available from WomenHeart are listed along with a review of content and ordering information.
The organization sponsors affiliated WomenHeart Support Networks in local communities. These networks are listed on the site and offer women with heart disease the opportunity to meet and exchange support and information.
Links to other organizations and sources of information are arranged under various topics and brief descriptions of each link are provided.
You can also sign up for an e-mail newsletter.
Some information is available in Spanish.
