Heart Truth
(Web resource)
Organization: Heart and Stroke Foundation

The Heart Truth is a national public health education campaign led by the Heart and Stroke Foundation to raise awareness that heart disease and stroke are the leading cause of death for Canadian women. The campaign educates women about identifying their risks and warning signs of heart disease and stroke, and shows them how to take charge of their heart health by making lifestyle changes that can reduce their risk.

The Know Your Risk section of the bilingual Heart Truth website contains the following subsections:

• What Are Heart Disease and Stroke?
• Women and Heart Health
• Warning Signs
• Prevention
• Tests
• Treatment
• Living with Heart Disease and Stroke
• Evaluate Your Risk
• The Heart Truth Stories

The Multicultural Resource section contains information for women in the African-Canadian; First Nations, Inuit and Métis; Chinese; South Asian; and Farsi-speaking communities.

The site also features:

• information for women about how to become a Heart Truth leader in their community
• a section with additional information for health professionals
• a documentary in which women who have experienced heart disease or a heart attack share their stories

Users can also sign up for The Heart Truth e-newsletter to receive heart-healthy information and tips.

A site search function is available.
